Eagles repeat as state champions

By Jerry W. Kram

The Eagles only qualified in four events for the North Dakota State Class B Track Meet in Bismarck last weekend, but boy did they make the count. The Eagles dominated the 800, 1600, 3200 and 4x800 races to score 81 points and take the state team title for a second year in a row.

Ryan Wheeling, a junior for the Eagles, set the pace for the team, taking first place in all three of the individual races and anchoring the first place relay team of Chace Hale, Joe Chase and Jalen Chase.

What the Eagles lacked in versatility they made up in depth. The Eagles had two runners in the top 10 in the 800 meters, five in the 1600 meters and six in the 3200 meters. That was good enough to top second place Des Lacs-Burlington by 21 points.
