New Town Eagles win the close ones in tournament

The New Town Eagles are the champions of District 15 Boys Basketball having squeaked past the North Shore Plaza Wildcats 46-45 in a seesaw battle.
It wasn’t the Eagles only tough struggle during the tournament. In the semifinals, Trenton nearly surprised the top seeded Eagles, who won by just two, 57-55. Trenton and the White Shield Warriors will join the Eagles and Wildcats in the Region 8 Tournament that begins Thursday at the 4 Bears Event Center.
In the opening round of the tournament Friday, New Town dominated the Alexander Comets 81-24, fifth seed Trenton Tigers had a minor upset over fourth seed Mandaree Warriors 72-63, the Wildcats turned back the Trinity Christian Crusaders 66-41, and White Shield stopped the Parshall Braves 74-36.
In the loser out games Saturday, Mandaree had 11 Warriors in the scoring column as they sent the Alexander Comets home 79-30, led by Devin Bear Claw 16, Kasen Johnson 15, Aaron Wolf 12, and Merrill Howling Wolf 10. Parshall kept it’s hopes alive by stopping the Crusaders 69-57. Landon Young Bird had 26 for the Braves and Andrew Hankinson had 20 and Lawrence Polanco contributed 18.
