Dancers and drums greet the New Year

The dancing and traditional drum brought in the new year of 2019 in a very special way. The special event was the 2019 Midwinter New Year’s Powwow Celebration at the Northern Lights Wellness Center in New Town.
Sponsored by the Antelope Society and Little Shell Powwow Committee, the event was hosted by North Segment this year. The celebration began with a grand entry five hours before midnight. There were specials that first night that included the honoring of Kurtlyn Hall, a U.S. Army soldier who completed her basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
The evening also had a giveaway in recognition of the adopting of Bandy Poitra into the Prairie Chicken Clan. Poitra is married to Nicole (Henry) Poitra and has been living in the community for 10 years. After the adoption ceremony, there was a meal provided by the Poitras and their family members for the Prairie Chicken Clan that the entire crowd was
