New Town public school projects on track

Two separate New Town School District construction projects that have continued through the winter have seen some minor changes take place, but are expected to be completed on time.
A kitchen and dining area on the east side of the high school should wrap up on Aug. 5 and classrooms primarily on the east side of the elementary school should be done by Aug. 10, according to Supt. Marc Bluestone.
The high school construction is estimated at $1.6 million and the elementary project is estimated at $4.6 million.
“Things have really moved well at the elementary and there are no complaints,” Bluestone said. “A fairly mild winter has helped construction.”
Bluestone said some minor issues have popped up, but that is to be expected with projects of this magnitude. Thus having patience is very important.
As an example, some steel that was supposed to be used for the high school construction, was sold to someone else and until additional steel was found, construction was delayed. First Dakota Enterprises of Dickinson is the prime contractor.
Additionally, parking has been an issue at the high school. The project has taken up 20 percent of the school’s parking lot so people sometimes scramble to find a spot.
