Community comes through for first responders

While Subway restaurant manager Jon Van De Velde delivered 16 meals to the New Town Fire Department, he didn’t want any credit for the delivery.
“This was all due to our customers,” Van De Velde said. “All we did was take the time to make and deliver them.”
The boxes with a sandwich, cookie and chips were donated by customers of the Subway restaurant on Eagle Drive near the Little Missouri Inn and Suites. Van De Velde said he just set up a box near the till in the restaurant where people could donate money for meals for first responders.
“I don’t push people to donate because I don’t like it when other places do that to me,” Van De Velde said. “The box is just there so people see it and donate if they want.”
Van De Velde said the goal was to collect enough money for 50 meals. In just one day enough money was donated for 10 meals.
