Classes of 2020 will get graduation ceremonies

By Jerry W. Kram

The Senior Class of 2020 has given up a lot this year. From proms to the State Class B Basketball Tournament to class plays and concerts, many of milestones of the last year of high school were sacrificed to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However local seniors will be able to experience the capstone of their academic achievements as the local schools will be able to hold graduation ceremonies under new restrictions issued by the state of North Dakota.
Mandaree, Parshall, North Shore-Plaza and New Town have all scheduled graduation ceremonies over the next three weeks. Mandaree will hold its graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 21 at 6 p.m. at the Mandaree Powwow Grounds. Parshall and North Shore-Plaza will hold their ceremonies on Sunday, May 24 at 4 p.m. NSP’s ceremony will be held in the Plaza City Park while Parshall’s will be the first ceremony to be held in the new High School gymnasium. New Town will hold its ceremony on Saturday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at the 4 Bears Event Center.
Each community will be implementing social distancing guidelines to meet the state requirements.
Chief among those recommendations is that family groups will be seated at least six feet apart from other groups. There will be limitations on mixing between the graduates and the audience to cut down on the risk of spreading the virus.
