City, tribe come to agreement on Law Enforcement Center

The City of New Town and the MHA Nation came to a tentative agreement over utilities and other issues of concern regarding the Tribal Law Enforcement Center and Courthouse under construction in New Town.
Tribal Chairman Mark Fox and tribal legal counsel John Fredericks met with the New Town City Council this week to hammer out some issues regarding the project and other tribal developments in New Town.
Fredericks said the first concern was with the city’s new developers’ agreement the city adopted over the winter. Fredericks said the tribe’s engineers said that a lot of things in the agreement were not applicable to the project. City attorney Bill Woods explained that the agreement was meant more for developers who wanted to develop multiple structures like a residential development and not a single structure like the Law Enforcement Center.
