As the community changes and grows so does it’s political body.
The New Town City Council passed an ordinance last Wednesday that will change the time in which the council meets. Passing on its second reading, the ordinance states the city council will meet from now on at 6 p.m. on the third Wednesday each month instead of 3 p.m.
The change was necessary because two of the members of city council, mayor Dan Uran and council member Terry Mathson, are both employed by the New Town School District and numerous school conflicts with schedules have arisen with the 3 p.m. time slot.
During the debate, council members also talked about meeting early in the morning, however the early evening time slot appeared to be a more popular start time. Mathson said there would be many times he wouldn’t be able to attend in the morning because he also drives bus as well as teaches.
The new ordinance further states that if the third Wednesday of the month falls on a holiday, the meeting will be held the following day at the same time, 6 p.m.
