Celebrating Recovery: The Door turns one

By Logan J. Davis
The streets of New Town were a bustle of activity last Thursday morning as the staff of ‘The Door’ Resource and Recovery Lodge and their supporters prepared for North Segment Sobriety Celebration Course.
The course was held in conjunction with the celebration of the first anniversary of ‘The Door’. The resource and recovery lodge is located next to the post office on main street. The partnerships of many entities made the event very successful and the opening ceremonies that morning delivered strong words of gratitude from North Segment Tribal Councilwoman Monica Mayer, M.D.
Mayer greeted the participants and the supporters of ‘The Door’ and gave accolades for the success of the resource and recovery lodge. She emphasized that ‘The Door’ provides a place of comfort and a great place for people in recovery to feel welcome. In the year of operation, ‘The Door’ has gone from seven program participants to more than 200 participants in their first year. Mayer introduced some new staff and then happily announced that The Door Recovery Lodge will expand its hours of operation to include being open on Saturdays.
