Mandaree holding youth rodeo clinics
By Jerry W. Kram
Rodeo fever is spreading like wildfire over the Fort Berthold Reservation and the Mandaree Rodeo Association wants to help local youth get in on the action.
The MRA has arranged for a collection of Indian National Finals Rodeo and National Finals Rodeo champions to come to the Mandaree Rodeo Grounds this summer and share their knowledge and experience with local youth.
The classes started this week with world champion INFR barrel racer Pam Hall leading classes in basic horsemanship and barrel racing. The following weeks will see breakaway and tie-down roping with Paul Tourney, a member of the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, saddle and bareback bronc riding with three time PRCA Champion Hawkeye Henson and team roping with INFR Champions Casey Cummins and Brooks Dahozy. A bull riding and steer wrestling clinic will also be held at a date to be announced.
Registration for the classes is at 8:30 a.m. for the day of the event with the classes starting at 9 a.m. The breakaway and tiedown clinic will be held June 11 and 12. The saddle bronc/bareback clinic will be held June 27 and 28, and the team roping and roping events clinic will be July 9 and 10.
