Bite the Ice continues growth

A recreational idea to help break up the monotony of winter several years ago, has turned into a major sporting event for northwestern North Dakota.
Co-sponsored by the Parshall Promoters and the New Town Chamber of Commerce, the Bite the Ice on “The Hook” ice fishing tournament and raffle has been announced for Saturday, Feb. 6 from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m., on the Van Hook Arm of Lake Sakakawea.
This will be the fourth annual Bite the Ice, which, according to organizers, has grown each year it has been held, It will be expanded from last year’s event that brought 291 participants to Van Hook and had sales of 700 raffle tickets.
The Promoters and Chamber are expecting more than 300 participants this year who will be looking for the biggest fish and the number of raffle tickets have been increased to 750.
