Foote family brings four days of rodeo to New Town
By Jerry W. Kram
Blaine Foote has one foot in the past and another in the future as he organized four days of rodeo excitement held at the New Town Rodeo Grounds.
Thursday kicked off with the MHA Youth Rodeo, where youth from tots to teenagers got a start on the cowboy life. Some of the youngest started out riding stick horses while others took on “rough stock” in the mutton busting event. Older youth rode hard in barrel racing and calf and steer riding. Other events included goat tail tying and untying, dummy roping, flag races and breakaway roping.
Foote said he was sure there were a few cowboys out there who would be at the National Finals Rodeo in a decade or two.
“It’s going great,” Foote said. “The kids are having fun, the parents are all smiling. I love doing youth rodeos. That’s how I started out. I relive memories watching these kids. The families are really into this, especially the rodeo families because this is where they get their start. Once they do good here they move on to bigger and better things.”
Foote said there were three world champions competing in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association rodeo held Friday and Saturday and they all started just like the kids who competed Thursday.
