Area communities come together to celebrate the Christmas Season 2018

By Edna Sailor
Even though Santa has not come down the chimney yet, our area communities have taken the holiday as an opportunity to get together with each other and celebrate the season with food, festivities, song and generosity of gift and spirit.
On December 1, New Town kicked off the season with its friendly main street businesses and the Chamber for the walk about and parade of lights. Guests enjoyed treats and good company despite an ugly ice storm before the event.
The North Segment held its Christmas party on Wednesday, December 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event included a supper, a special new winter wonderland village with Santa. There was also a photo booth opportunity for those who wanted to record the experience for posterity. Guests enjoyed music presented by the New Town High School Choir. Santa was on hand to present gifts to children and elders.
North Shore-Plaza School held its Christmas Concert on December 18 at 7 p.m. An earlier preschool program was held at 2:45 p.m. that day as well.
Plaza held its community Christmas drawing on Saturday, December 22 at 11 a.m. Santa was there with gifts for children and adults took part in the drawings for turkeys and hams.
The Four Bears Segment held its Christmas Holiday Dinner on December 19 at 6 p.m. at the Johnny Bird Memorial Building. The meal was sponsored by the Four Bears Segment Community Board.
The North East Segment decorated a float for the Parshall Parade of Lights on Saturday December 15. Following the parade they continued the celebration with a dinner. Santa showed up for the event.
