Jury duty scam attempted
On the afternoon of July 8, 2014, Mountrail County Sheriff Ken Halvorson was notified by a New Town woman, that she had been contacted by a male individual who called her at home, stating he was Lt. Brian O’Connor with the Mountrail County Court.
Pipeline spill near Mandaree
A pipeline about seven miles north of Mandaree has been leaking oilfield brine near Bears Den Bay of Lake Sakakawea.
Lakeside Bank plans to merge with Cornerstone
Lakeside Bank Holding Company, New Town, and Cornerstone Holding Company of Fargo announced a definitive merger agreement, which will take effect in late 2014 or early 2015, subject to regulatory approval. The merged entity will operate under the name Cornerstone Bank.
Construction slowdown to continue through summer
If you are coming to or going through New Town, be prepared to slow down and expect to wait a while. Construction on both the east side and west end of New Town will slow traffic to a crawl for the rest of the summer.

MHA Tourism kicks off summer season
The sun was glistening off Lake Sakakawea and bird song filled the air as a good sized crowd gathered to celebrate the beginning of summer at the Earth Lodge Village about six miles west of New Town.
