Volunteers turn out to spruce up rodeo grounds
More than 50 people representing numerous community agencies turned out last weekend to clean up and fix up the New Town Rodeo Grounds and get it ready for youth activities in September.
City council highlights projects in progress
New Town city council members talked about a number of items during the regular meeting Aug 20, but projects in progress took center stage. As an example, the city is requesting an official progress report on the Breslin paving project from Bureau of Indian Affairs in Aberdeen, S.D.
Lake Sakakawea forecast creating cautious optimism
There’s a hint of optimism that the substantial rise of Lake Sakakawea this summer will hold throughout the winter. Although the average rise has waned in recent weeks, Lake Sakakawea continues to creep higher. And in the long run, the level could remain relatively high compared to recent years, begging the thought that the lake could get a good jumpstart to rising even more next summer.
Thirty file for tribal council positions
Tribal voters had until Tuesday of this week to challenge the eligibility of the 30 potential candidates who filed for the three tribal business council positions up for election this fall. Besides electing council district representatives, voters will also be asked to elect the chief judge of the Fort Berthold District Court.
