Homecoming court crowned

Shayna Taft was named 2008 homecoming queen and Cesar Alvarez was named king during festivities at New Town High School Tuesday afternoon.
The king and queen were picked by their peers and crowned by 2007 king and queen Patrick Wolf and Katrina Eagle.

Canvassing of tribal primary ballots went into the early morning hours ending around 2 a.m. on Wednesday morning at the 4 Bears Casino Event Center in New Town. On Tuesday, tribal voters went to the election polls to vote for three tribal council representatives and a chief judge for the Fort Berthold Tribal Court.
New Town, White Shield, and Mandaree districts voters cast their ballots for tribal council candidates in each of their respective districts. Voting was also held reservation-wide for the chief judge position.

Rain falls in region

People have been waiting a long time for a good, three-day soaker and it came last week in the form of heavy rain, drizzle, light rain and finally, more heavy rain.


Unofficial reports suggest 1.70 inches of precipitation in New Town during the first week of September, including just under an inch on Thursday.

An historic water agreement was signed Tuesday by the Three Affiliated Tribes and the city of New Town that will help bring rural water to at least 80 homes on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

Fallen soldiers honored

Officials from the Three Affiliated Tribes honored 13 of their own Tuesday dedicating a Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial at the Three Affiliated Tribes Museum.
