Wilson Collaborative on the cutting edge of health care

The Wilson Health Care Collaborate is not unique in the United States, but is certainly on the cutting edge, according to cooperative chair, Bill Patrie. He said there are actually three other health-care co-ops operating in the country, one of them since the end of World War II.
The Group Health Care Co-op of Puget Sound in Washington, began in 1945, while two others exist in Minneapolis and in Washington, D.C.
Patrie said the co-op in Washington has 650,000 members and is designed to deliver health care like an HMO. He said the co-op owns several hospitals in the D.C. metro area and employs approximately 800 doctors.
