Van Hook fishing trip to be televised

Van Hook fishing trip to be televised

Clayton Folden knows his way around the waters off of Van Hook.
He ought to. The New Town resident guided and ran a bait and tackle shop in the area for more than 30 years. He has been retired for a while, and now just fishes for his own pleasure. But he was back on the water recently to help produce a televised fishing program that highlighted Lake Sakakawea’s bountiful walleye fishery.
Jason Mitchell came to the area to film a walleye fishing episode for the television show, Jason Mitchell Outdoors on the Van Hook Arm of Lake Sakakawea. Mitchell teamed up with Folden, whom he called a local angling legend.
“They just called me and asked me if I would take them out,” Folden said. “I didn’t know Jason personally but years ago when I had the bait shop at Van Hook he would come down and fished out of there once in a while. He does fishing shows all around the country and he just asked if I would mind doing a fishing show on Van Hook.”
The anglers caught several walleyes over twenty inches with the largest measuring twenty five inches during a day of fishing. According to Mitchell, the quality of fishing on Lake Sakakawea right now is impressive.
“Over the past couple of years, we have watched Lake Sakakawea really rebound and this has to be one of the hottest walleye fisheries in the Country right now with where this lake is trending,” explained Mitche
