Remote and rural areas on the Fort Berthold Reservation can anticipate broadband Internet service within the next three years.
Last week Reservation Telephone Cooperative secured a $10.95 million grant and a $10.95 million loan to provide broadband service to homes, businesses, schools and libraries across the reservation.
Part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the initiative will not only bring cutting-edge Internet service to Fort Berthold, but is expected to create more than 40 jobs during the phasing in of the broadband.
“The impact of this will be huge,” RTC CEO Royce Aslakson said. “This will allow us to get broadband to areas we wouldn’t have otherwise.”
