Three Tribes Museum participates in State Historical Society digitization project

A digital project intern with the North Dakota State Historical Society is in New Town this week preserving documents into infinity.
Alyssa Gerszewski has spent three days in the Three Tribes Museum scanning booklets, maps, photographs or whatever is deemed most valuable for preservation. After the documents are scanned onto a laptop computer and background information is embedded, Gerszewski will return to Bismarck where the documents will be loaded on to a Web site called Digital Horizons.
“The Three Tribes Museum is part of a statewide digital project in which 10 museums were selected,” Gerszewski said. “They’re basically paper documents and some audio is selected. They’re things that represent people or events.”
According to museum curator Marilyn Hudson, most of the information being digitized in New Town is a museum proposal called Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Voices Against the Garrison Dam.
