Sunshine and golf is medicine

Sunshine and golf is medicine

Local golf courses ease the stress for many
By Logan J Davis

With the weather providing the perfect environment recently for golfing, many local golfers were out enjoying the game and taking full advantage of the sunshine and warm conditions. Spirits were high for everyone who hit the links and fairways at both the Doc Blatherwick Municipal Golf Course in Parshall and Edgewater Country Club in New Town.
For those who have been confined inside their homes for long periods of time because of the COVID-19 epidemic, the newly opened golf courses are a welcome  reprieve from lack of fresh air and physical activity. Long-term stress can lead to depression and anxiety but now that the Parshall Golf Course and Edgewater provides a great outlet for that stress, there were smiles on everyone’s face.
Last week, Bandy and Nicole Poitra were very happy to be able to golf and have some fun while breathing in the fresh air and being with each other and groups of their friends at the Edgewater Country Club just west of New Town.
“All I need is family, golf and some good poker games and I’m happy,” said a smiling Nicole Poitra as she and her husband got ready to go back on the fairway at Edgewater Country Club.
“This great weather and being able to come out and golf is a way of keeping myself sane after being stuck inside for so long,” added Bandy Poitra.
Edgewater Country Club management has implemented new illness prevention guidelines for the club that includes the staff disinfecting the rental golf carts after every use and encouraging social distancing. Edgewater does not rent clubs at this time and will not until the coronavirus issue is over. Golfers are required to bring their own clubs to play in New Town for the time being.
