A number of area residents and business people turned out this past Saturday for the second and final Legislative Forum. The Garrison Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee sponsors the event.
A lot of interest was in how the federal stimulus package would be used by the state. Stimulus funding is coming down the pipeline already
Sen. John Warner, D-NPL, Ryder, said the Legislature had the first detailed briefings on the giant federal stimulus package passed by Congress and the Obama Administration early this week. North Dakota will be getting almost $575 million in stimulus money. The money covers everything from Pell Grants for college students, to increased food stamp spending, increased unemployment benefits, funding for K-12 schools, and highway and bridge project funding.
Warner said the funding would be targeted to specific areas over a specific timeframe, and will be tightly controlled by the federal government under provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
