State approves annexation of Packineau Lane

By Logan J. Davis
The State Board of Public School Education voted unanimously to annex over 113 acres of property (41 lots) from the New Town Public School District No. 1 to the Parshall School District No. 3 at an official hearing on Tuesday after testimony was provided by several individuals who were in support of the annexation. The annexation property is owned by the Northeast Segment and Three Affiliated Tribes.
Councilman Mervin Packineau was a key presenter at the hearing and was pleased with the outcome of the vote. He noted during his testimony that he was out in his field haying in the area that is known as Parshall Bay one day several years ago when he looked over the fields and realized that it would be a beautiful place to build homes. So that was the birth of the outlying community that is now home to many people. That housing development in Parshall Bay has quickly grown in the last four years, Packineau pointed out to the board.
“I want to thank everyone who worked on this issue, especially Alice Harwood. She was the one who was involved in all of the work since the petition for annexation started. What it comes down to is what is best for those students and that their parents now have a voice when it comes to their education,” stated Councilman Packineau.
