School working toward a major literacy grant

By Jerry W. Kram
The Parshall School District is on track to earn a major six-figure education grant to promote literacy in young readers in the community.
Superintendent Beth Schwarz reported to the Parshall School Board that the team of administrators, teachers and community members attended grant writing workshops in Bismarck, Minot and Fargo to learn more about the Striving Reader Comprehensive Literacy (SRCL) program.
Schwarz updated the board on the progress toward applying for the grant, which will provide up to $27 million to 17 schools allowed to apply for the project. The program will seek to help children from birth through high school graduation who are at risk for reading problems to help them improve their reading skills. Parshall schools was approved as one of the 17 schools allowed to apply for the program back in March.
