School Board begins superintendent search

The Parshall School District put the wheels in motion to hire a new superintendent at its regular meeting on Tuesday.
The board met with John Martinson of the North Dakota School Boards Association who will be assisting the board with its search. John Weidner resigned from the district earlier in the month to take a position with another school district.
Martinson said that the district was coming to the process late in the year. Most schools looking to hire a new superintendent usually start that process in February at the latest. However, he was optimistic that the search would turn up some good candidates for the school.
"One thing I would caution you about is that you shouldn’t think you have to hire a superintendent right away," Martinson said. "The pool will be thin this time of year. Most people looking for this kind of a job already have one. If you don’t think any of the candidates are the right fit, then you shouldn’t hire one because you think you need one. You can get along with an interim superintendent for a while until you find someone who is right for this school."
Martinson will provide the district with background and reference checks on all the candidates who apply for the position. He will also help the board prepare interview questions and get ready to bring the top candidates to Parshall for the interviews.
