Ryder-Makoti Fire Dept. receives federal grant

U.S. Senators Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad and Congressman Earl Pomeroy announced today that the Ryder-Makoti Fire Department has been awarded a $73,055 federal grant to help improve operations and safety.

The Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grants are aimed at enhancing response capabilities and allowing departments to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public. The grants are used for training, to conduct health and safety programs, and to buy equipment and response vehicles.

"This funding will give a well-deserved boost to the firefighters who serve Ryder, Makoti and the surrounding area," the delegation said in a joint statement. "They do a difficult job that puts their own safety at risk for the sake of others. This funding will help them do their jobs more effectively and more safely."
