Residents being relocated to other facilities

Nobody in Parshall is looking forward to March 7 when the Good Samaritan Society’s Rock View Nursing Home will close its doors.
Good Samaritan’s public affairs director mark Dickerson told the Mountrail County Record that the decision to close the skilled nursing facility was difficult and the ultimate decision to do so followed a long, drawn out debate.
“Staffing in Parshall has been tough and there’s been a high nurse turnover,” Dickerson said. “We can’t keep staff and there just aren’t enough workers.”
In addition, Medicaid rates are fairly high and that doesn’t help the flow of business that needs to be successful like any other business needs to keep its doors open.
Dickerson called it a “Catch 22” situation.
According to Dickerson, Rock View is already beginning to relocate residents and working with the families to make sure everyone is well cared for. The nursing home had 12 residents when the announcement was made to close and is licensed for 20.
“We’re going to work with the residents and a couple have already been moved,” Dickerson said. “Sometimes there are other options available.”
Stanley, Garrison and Minot have all been thrown around as those options, as well as Velva, which is also affiliated with the Good Samaritan Society.
New Town may be another option, however, Dickerson confirmed that the Good Samaritan Society is looking for a buyer for that facility. At this time, the Good Samaritan Society has no plans to close New Town, but yes, a buyer is being sought so there is a bit of uncertainty, especially in transferring residents from Rock View.
