Remembering days of boarding school

Remembering days of boarding school

By Logan J. Davis

The memories of Indian boarding school for Roberta (Young Bird) Crows Breast are filled with good thoughts that override the ones that were not so pleasant. Crows Breast or “Kay Bird” as she is called to by family and friends, graduated in 1969 with a fairly large class from the Immaculate Conception High School in Stephan, S.D.
One evening as a young girl, Crows Breast sat down with her mother in 1964 in what would change her life. The young Parshall girl would ask her mother to let her go away to boarding school. Crows Breast knew she had a relative attending the school (Phyllis Bluestone Wells) which prompted her to choose the Immaculate Conception boarding school. “Kay Bird” is still pleased with her decision that she attended boarding school in Stephan.
