Proposal could ease Parshall’s truck traffic

The Parshall City Council was looking towards the future as issues of water sales, planning and zoning and housing were on the agenda for it’s regular meeting held Wednesday morning.
City Engineer Jasper Scheider of AE2S Engineering informed the council of a proposal from EOG Resources Inc., that would radically change how the city sells industrial water to the oil industry. Currently the city sells water first come, first served at its water depot in the southeast section of town. There have been complaints from area residents about the traffic and diesel fumes from the trucks that the city council has tried to address by rerouting trucks away from homes and apartments.
Schneider said that EOG proposes to pay for exclusive access to the first 15 million or so gallons of water the city sells to industrial users. Residential users in Parshall would still have the highest priority, he added. Currently EOG buys between 70 percent and 80 percent of the 20 or so million gallons of industrial water the city sells in the peak months of summer.
