Property values still rising in Parshall
By Jerry W. Kram
Property values are still strong in Parshall, at least according to the latest valuations for property taxes.
At a tax equalization meeting held before the latest Parshall City Council meeting, Parshall City Assessor Jackie Dwyer told the city council that 81 properties were valued higher and she sent letters to notify the owners that their property values were going to increase this year.
Dwyer pointed out than an increased valuation didn’t necessarily mean a property owner would owe more in taxes. Since the city’s mill levy is based on its budget as well as the valuation, property owners may see a lower mill levy that would cancel out the higher valuation.
Two property owners contacted Dwyer after the letters were sent out. She said one asked how the valuation was calculated and thanked her for explaining the process. The other gentleman attended the hearing and just asked that all Main Street businesses be treated equally. He was assured that that was the case.
