Plaza youth attends WW II Museum opening

On Dec. 11, Justus Bangen, a junior at Lewis and Clark-North Shore School, and his teacher, Joan Petrick attended the grand opening of the new gallery at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, La. Justus was selected to represent North Dakota as a flag bearer for the state of North Dakota at the opening of their newest gallery "The Road to Tokyo."
In June, Collin Makamson, Student Programs coordinator from the National World War II Museum, contacted Erik Holland, the National History Day coordinator in North Dakota, about having a student represent North Dakota and carry a flag for the dedication and grand opening of the new Gallery.
As North Shore is a National History Day participating school, Erik contacted Joan Petrick at Makoti about sending a student.
"I immediately thought of Justus," Petrick said. " He has always expressed an interest in history and I knew that this would be a valuable experience for him."
