Plaza celebrates 110 years

By Edna Sailor

Plaza is 110 this year and bearing its age quite well. While community members relished the opportunity to look back on their history, it is clear they are forward looking as well. The community gathered to dedicate its new gazebo in the park, while it also unveiled plans for a legacy path.

The sun peeked out just in time to welcome people to the park for that historic activity.

Trish Wheeling, Park Board member, unveiled future plans for a Legacy Path. Community members will be able to purchase engraved bricks that will be placed on the path from the gazebo to the northeast side of the park. Wheeling and other members of the board provided a display for the public to view samples of the bricks and inform them about sizes, prices and colors. Proceeds from the sales will be used to improve parks, cemeteries and ball diamond improvements. Information and updates on progress of park improvements is also available at Plaza Park’s Facebook page according to Wheeling.
