Plans for Hidatsa classes and summer school move forward

Parshall School District Superintendent John Weidner reported that Parshall High School was making progress on its plan to introduce Hidatsa language classes in next year’s curriculum.
Weidner reported on a visit he made to Fort Berthold Community College to speak with representatives of the college’s Native American Studies department. Weidner said he is working with the college to get the classes considered under North Dakota’s dual credit program. That way students who take the class in Parshall will be eligible to earn college credit at the same time.
“I’ve been talking to the Department of Public Instruction about dual credit,” Weidner said. “The whole process is moving ahead rather nicely.”
Weidner said Delvin Driver Jr. has agreed to teach the classes. Driver will earn his teaching certificate this summer. One of the things still under discussion was whether the class will be offered three or five days a week. Weidner suggested that one option could be to have Driver teach the class in Parshall three days a week and online Tuesdays and Thursdays.
