PHS students enjoy winter celebration

By Edna Sailor

There was a lot to celebrate at Parshall High School recently. It was Winterfest week at the School. While fun certainly happened with all of the events during the week, the purpose of the celebration goes much deeper.

"The purpose of the Winterfest is actually twofold. There used to be a long lag between the activities of Homecoming and Prom. Staff at the school felt something different was needed to encourage student interest, educational excellence as well as maintain student participation in school activities during that time. Students have to be actively participating in school and activities in order to be considered for one of the coronation candidate spots," said Parshall High School Principal Mark Grueneich.

Winterfest participation included a week long array of activities. They included PJ day, Hat and Shades day, Disney Day and Throwback Thursday Day and a Student Council Volleyball Tournament.

The introduction of Coronation candidates was held at the Trinity Christian basketball game.

The Royalty Coronation was held between games of the Junior Varsity girls and boys basket ball games against the Alexander Comets. Student body voters elected Deyondre Simpson as King and Shaylee Billadeau as Queen. The coronation court included three senior boys and girls as well as three junior boys and girls.
