Parshall’s needs will be represented
By Jerry W. Kram
Parshall will have a voice in the 2019 North Dakota Legislature as the City Council voted to hire Shane Goettle as an assistant City Attorney to represent the city in Bismarck during the session.
Goettle has represented Parshall, along with New Town and Stanley, in the 2015 and 2017 Legislative Sessions. State law prohibits cities from hiring lobbiests, which is why Goettle was appointed an assistant City Attorney.
Goettle said that changes are in the works for how oil revenue is distributed in North Dakota. However, Senate Majority Leader Rich Wardner (R-Dickinson) is working to make sure the percentage of revenue going to communities in the Bakken aren’t cut. Wardner’s bill is called the Prairie Dog initiative.
