Parshall school has smooth start

There were few bumps in the road as the Parshall School Board held its first meeting of the 2012-13 school year, although attendance continues to be a problem.
“We are seeing about the same number of tardy students at the beginning of the day as we did last year,” said Superintendent John Weidner. “Our truancy officer has kept very busy contacting the parents of students who aren’t in school and should be. Other than that the year hasn’t started badly at all.”
Weidner said that improving attendance was one of his major challenges for the year. He said there is a direct connection between student’s performance and the time they are in the classroom.
“I wish people would understand how important it is to get their children to school in a timely fashion,” he said. “There is a direct correlation between attendance and grades.”
