Parshall, Plaza still looking for teachers as school start looms

By Edna Sailor

While a widespread discussion goes on at the state level in North Dakota about critical teacher shortages, local schools find the reality of that discussion all too close to home.

Both Parshall and Lewis and Clark schools have teacher vacancies as the first day of school rapidly approaches. John Weidner, Superintendent of Parshall Schools thought he was ready.

"In Parshall we are still two elementary teachers shy. We thought we had them filled by a couple of out of state applicants, but they changed their minds. Even having two teachers short is not ideal but when we started we had nine vacancies," Weidner said.

According to Brian Nelson, Superintendent of Lewis and Clark Schools, they are looking at even more vacancies.
