Together the newspapers picked up 31 awards, including eight first place, eight second place, six third place and two honorable mentions for the New Town News and four first place, two second place, and one third place for the Mountrail County Record.

The New Town News took first place honors in Spot News, Feature Reporting, Sports Reporting, Humorous Personal Column, Spot News Photo, Portrait Photo, Apparel Ad and Vehicle Ad. The Mountrail County Record was first in Overall Design Excellence, Picture Story, Pictorial Photo and Sports Photo. The Mountrail County Record was also recognized with a second place award for General Excellence and the New Town News was third.

Editor Jerry Kram credited paper designers Connie Krueger and Jackie Kohler for the paper’s strong performance. He added that without the support of the area communities, the papers wouldn’t have done so well.
