Mountrail County records 5 fatalities in a week

Less than a week after Three Affiliated Tribes Chairman Marcus Levings announced the need for a safer reservation, two traffic accidents have resulted in five fatalities.
The first accident occurred on N.D. Highway 23 early Saturday evening southeast of Plaza taking the lives of three people. The second incident was a rollover on a gravel road southwest of Parshall in which two people lost their lives. That accident occurred Monday afternoon.
In the Saturday collision, two of the four people involved were not wearing seatbelts and it is unknown if seatbelts were used in the Parshall accident. North Dakota Highway Patrol Sgt. Pat Hudson said there is a need for motorists to use their seatbelts regardless of conditions or speed they may intent to drive.
The Saturday incident, which occurred about five miles to the southeast of Plaza, was a collision. One vehicle, east bound, cross the center line, according to Hudson, striking the second vehicle, which was westbound.
The Monday incident happened on a township road, approximately 12 miles southwest of Parshall. The rollover was on a gravel road and the investigating Highway Patrol officer didn’t indicate the speed of the vehicle or the conditions that may have led to the two fatalities.
