Mountrail County Record among the Best in the West
The Mountrail County Record was recognized among the state’s best newspapers this past weekend at the North Dakota Newspaper Association annual convention.
The Mountrail County Record received seven awards, including first place awards for reporting and news series. The Record also won first place in overall design excellence and Jerry Kram, who edits both papers, gave graphic designer Connie Krueger full credit for that award.
“Parshall and New Town are two of the best looking newpapers in the state,” Kram said. “It’s the people behind the scenes that make it possible for me to bring our communities the stories they want and need to see in an attractive and entertaining package.”
The Mountrail County Record also finished second in the prestigious General Excellence category, placing it as one of North Dakota’s best small papers. The New Town News finished third. The two papers have finished in the top three in that category 10 times in the last six years.
The New Town News won 24 awards in the NDNA Better Newspaper Contest including first place awards for government reporting, personal column and sports page design. It also won first place for best outdoor recreation ad. In total, the paper won six advertising awards and 18 awards for reporting, photography and design excellence.
