Makoti receives grant for water storage

By Edna Sailor

Makoti Mayor, Tyler Stafslien, couldn’t be happier about a recent announcement from the federal government. As a part of a water infrastructure award to several communities in North Dakota, Makoti is slated to receive a $1.1 Million grant to upgrade water storage in the small western ward county community.

"We are planning to use the money to build a new water tower in Makoti. Water is an important to all communities. It is to us right now for several reasons. First, we want good water for our community members. But we would also like to see our population grow down the road. With our current water system that cannot happen. Our water infrastructure is outdated. It is old and close to maximum capacity." Stafslien said.
