It wasn’t the average groundbreaking that occurred on the southwest edge of Parshall Wednesday afternoon.
Sure, dignitaries were present, several people spoke, letter from the congressional delegation were read and there was even the ceremonial turning of the dirt by numerous people involved in the project.
But this groundbreaking had a couple of items that made it unique. First, the federal, state, local and private agencies that came together Wednesday proved that rural North Dakota can be revitalized and secondly, a huge check was presented to offset the cost of this ambitious housing project.
Lutheran Social Services Housing has been working with the city of Parshall for several months to secure a couple of properties in town so it can build 12 townhomes and eight apartments to alleviate the severe housing shortage seen here.
Jessica Thomasson, LSS Housing director Fargo, has been in Parshall numerous times since early this year and was on hand and took part in the groundbreaking ceremony. She said it’s the first time her organization has conducted a groundbreaking, and it shows a comittment to the residents of Parshall.
