Lost church bell finds its way home

Lost church bell finds its way home

For many people of the Parshall/Lucky Mound area, the loss of the historic church south of Parshall is a sad event that occurred last year. The Memorial Congregational Church is now a memory in the minds of the ones who attended church services in the over hundred years.
After the fire that destroyed the church last fall, Ed Hall of Parshall recovered the cornerstone and plaque that was the lone items remaining from the church. However, Hall always wondered where the church bell went to. He found out recently when a local farmer contacted him and said he had salvaged it and wanted to return it to the people of Parshall/Lucky Mound. Hall is grateful to the farmer who wanted to remain anonymous.
Hall said it is fortunate the community has retrieved the bell. An article in the Mountrail County Record spurred the farmer to call Hall and acknowledge that he had possession of the bell after he read the article. The article was about a book written by Hunter Andes that contained some of the history of the church.
“I know it was a good thing that the person read that article because it reminded him of how important the bell was to our people here,” said Hall.
