Parshall Bay Rec Area gets a new look

The entrance to the Parshall Bay Recreation area has been, well, a little nondescript.
People have been known to stop at the privately owned Brendle Bay Resort just across the street asking how to find the recreation area, which is operated by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department and Mountrail County Parks Department.
But now the entrance is as plain as the nose on your face thanks to some volunteer effort to install a sign that arches high over the entryway.
"This is something we’ve been waiting for for a long time," said Recreation Area Manager Barbara Knudson. "Mountrail-Williams Electric Cooperative installed the poles for the sign about four years ago, and we finally got money in the budget for the rest of the sign. We have put a lot of effort into getting this sign."
Knudson has managed the recreation area for nine years.
Knudson said some additional poles with ropes tied to represent a nautical theme would be added later. Parshall Bay is a popular spot for boaters and anglers to access Lake Sakakawea.
The sign was built by Fisher Industries in Dickinson. Mitchell Oilfield Services, which is now a part of the Wood Group, donated their time and equipment to move the sign from Dickinson to Parshall Bay and install it.
