Icy roads contribute to accidents
Icy conditions were a factor in two injury accidents in the region during the past week.
Jody Colton Sims, 18, and a passenger Ferrell Wayne Spradlin, both of Crosby. were traveling north on Highway 85 about 7.5 miles east of Fortuna in a 2012 Ford F-250 from a work site location in rural Divide County to Crosby. Stanley Joseph Margras, 49, of Watonga, Okla., was traveling west on Highway 5 in 2007 Kenworth pulling a tanker trailer from a disposal site in rural Divide County to a location in rural Divide County.
Sims was approaching the stop sign marked intersection of Highways 85 and 5 when he began to slide due to the very icy roadway. Margras observed Sims’ vehicle approaching the stop sign and observed the pickup was not stopping, so he attempted to accelerate to avoid the collision, but was unsuccessful.
