Holiday train stopping in Ward County
Carpio and Minot to hear Canada’s top musical talent

Dec. 16 marks the fifth anniversary that the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will be making a whistle stop in Carpio.
This is the 12th year since the charity train made its maiden voyage to raise money, food and awareness to battle hunger.
A small community in Ward County sandwiched between Kenmare and Minot and 55 miles northeast of Parshall, Carpio is the final U.S. stop for this train that boasts some of the most talented musicians Canada has to offer.
With a population of 170, Carpio is also one of the smallest communities the train stops in during its long journey that leaves Kahnawake, Quebec on Nov. 26. Toronto, with it’s 3.2 million metropolitan population, is the largest city in which the train stops.
In all, the special freight train will roll through eight states and six Canadian provinces that includes five stops in North Dakota. Major cities include Hamilton and Thunder Bay, Ontario, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Dubuque and Davenport, Iowa and LaCrosse, Wis.
“The holiday train’s mandate remains strong and that is to help tackle hunger, regardless of borders or the size of the community,” said Fred Green of CP Rail public affairs. “At this critical time of year, CP employees and thousands of volunteers in Canada and the United States are again joining together in helping the less fortunate.”
The special train is scheduled to roll into Carpio at 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 after a 7:30 performance in downtown Minot. Following the Carpio concert, the train follows the steel rail to North Portal, Estevan and Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
