Highway 23 collision results in 2 fatalities
A New Town man and Halliday woman have died as a result of injuries they suffered in a collision Friday morning west of New Town on N.D. Highway 23.
Darrel Danks, 29, and Kristie Sorenson, 39, died after the 2002 Chevrolet they were in collided with a 2000 Dodge pickup driven by 32-year-old Gabriel Black Hawk of New Town.
According to Capt. Alan Billehus of the North Dakota Highway Patrol’s Williston District, Black Hawk was heading westbound on N.D. 23 from 4 Bears Casino while Danks was heading eastbound toward New Town when they collided approximately four miles west of the casino.
Danks’ pickup entered the south ditch and caught fire while the cab of Black Hawk’s pickup was partially separated from the box of the truck but stayed on the roadway.
Danks and Sorenson were pulled from the vehicle by a passing motorist and transported to a Minot hospital were they later died. Black Hawk who was injured in the crash, was charged with driving under the influence.
