Thursday morning’s commute into and out of New Town turned tragic when a head-on collision about five miles east of town resulted in one fatality and three injuries.
Thirty-two-year-old Jason Conklin, New Town, died as the result of the accident. He was driving a 1993 Eagle Talon that was struck by a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier that was driven by 51-year-old Andrew Grant of New Town.
Grant was injured and taken to a Minot hospital as was his passenger, 47-year-old Karen Grant, who was ejected from the vehicle. Jessica Danks, a 24-year-old passenger in the Conklin car, was also injured in the 7:52 a.m., collision.
According to North Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Alan Billehus, the Grants were traveling westbound when they made an attempt to pass a vehicle, lost control and struck the oncoming Conklin vehicle. The Cavalier came to a stop on its wheels on the inside of the south ditch facing west, according to Billehus, and the Talon, came to a rest on its wheels in the south ditch facing northwest.
