Grueneich says goodbye

By Jerry W. Kram
Graduation is a time of celebration, but welcoming the Class of 2018 to the wider world was bittersweet for Parshall High School Principal Mark Grueneich. He is retiring after 32 years as a teacher at Parshall, 31 of them as principal.
It was the last time he would announce that students had fulfilled the requirements of the state Department of Public Instruction and were eligible to graduate and calling each one of them by name.
“It was bittersweet,” Grueneich said. “It did pop into mind that this would be the last time I did it. I tried not to think about it too much because I didn’t want to get emotional while I was calling my name. I did think about after everybody left the gym.”
