Grueneich commended for 25 years in Parshall

Mark Grueneich came to Parshall in the mid 1980s looking to gain some experience as a teacher and a football coach. He thought he would move on after a few years, but after a few decades, he’s still here.
Grueneich was honored by the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals for 25 years of service as principal of Parshall High School.
"It’s and award for still being alive," Grueneich said. "The first year I was in Parshall I just taught. The second year they had me go back to summer school and then I became principal."
Grueneich started his teaching career in 1975 in Drayton and then he spent nine years in Towner before coming to Parshall. This year also marked his 38th year as a football coach.
"There isn’t a football team I’ve coached that I don’t remember," he said. "I remember nearly every athlete I’ve coached as well. It doesn’t matter whether it was a good season or not, because the fun part has been the kids themselves – their personality and character, the whole team aspect. That never gets blurred over the years."
